How I work:
While I have a graduate degree and training in clinical psychology, you are the expert when it comes to your lived experience. Yet the problem-laden stories we tell about ourselves can leave out important details that may seem trivial but might point to a new way of examining our lives.
What is Narrative Therapy?
Narrative therapy is an approach to counseling that begins with the premise that you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. The way we see ourselves can be defined by the language that we use. Far too often, we confuse what we do with who we are. Are you an angry person, or a person who sometimes gets angry? Are you an alcoholic, or a person who misuses alcohol?
In other words, the language that we use—our narrative—can constrict us into a narrow view of who we are.
As we begin this collaborative journey, I see my role as a co-author, helping you develop an alternate—yet perhaps truer—personal history so that you may move forward with courage and confidence. My approach does not focus on problems or pathologies but on strengths.

Marriage and family therapists believe that healing and growth take place in the context of relationship. Therefore, it's important that you can build a trusting relationship with your counselor. I invite you to explore this site and contact me if you think we will make good co-authors of your new life story.
In my mid-40s, following a 20 year career in nonprofit management, I felt an ache inside me that there was something missing, that life had more to offer, and I had more to offer life. After a period of soul searching, I enrolled in a graduate program in clinical psychology at Antioch University, Los Angeles. I gained my first clinical experience in 2009 counseling chronic heroin addicts at a methadone clinic in downtown Los Angeles. Since then, I have collaborated with men and women in a variety of settings to re-story their lives. Each day, as I witness growth and change, I am ever more amazed at the resilience of the human spirit.
